UK removal businesses that publish prices advertise a median of £52 an hour for one person and a van, or £65 for two people and a van. Those figures come from 12 and nine firms respectively.

Marketit collected the prices from removal company websites in ten UK cities in October 2026. The figures show what a small group of businesses chooses to advertise. They are not quotes for a particular move or prices confirmed as paid by customers.

Man and van hourly prices at a glance

    ServiceMedian hourly priceAdvertised rangeFirms
    One person and a van£52£40–£8012
    Two people and a van£65£60–£1029
    Three people and a van£85£70–£1507

Four of the 12 one-person rates, two of the nine two-person rates and one of the seven three-person rates were advertised as starting prices. Explicitly VAT-exclusive amounts were increased by 20% for comparison; prices with no stated VAT basis were left as shown on the website.

How much is a man and van per hour?

Twelve removal firms listed a one-person-and-van hourly rate. The median was £52 and the published prices ranged from £40 to £80. The middle half of advertised figures fell between £49 and £61. The study did not record each company’s minimum booking period, fuel or mileage conditions, so an hourly figure alone does not reveal the total cost of a move.

How much are two or three people and a van?

Nine firms listed a rate for two people and a van, with a median of £65 an hour and a range of £60–£102. Seven firms listed a three-person crew, with a median of £85 an hour and a range of £70–£150.

The medians rise as the crew grows, but each row is based on a different group of firms. The gap between £52, £65 and £85 should not be read as a fixed amount added when a single company supplies another mover.

Fantastic Services’ 2026 guide cited £50–£80 an hour for two people and a van outside London, and £60–£100 in London and the South East, including VAT. It did not identify a source for those figures. The £65 advertised median falls within the non-London range.

How much does it cost to move a flat or house?

Far fewer websites gave a price for a complete home move. Where they did, most published a starting figure rather than a fixed quote.

Type of movePublished price rangeFirmsStarting prices
    Studio or one-bedroom home£180–£40043 of 4
    Two-bedroom home£300–£54932 of 3
    Three-bedroom home£475–£80033 of 3

Only three or four businesses contributed to each row, so the study did not calculate a median for full moves. These advertised amounts should not be used to predict the cost of a specific property. Distance, access, number of items and the services included can all change what a firm quotes.

What is included in a man and van price?

The study recorded the prices shown on websites, but did not consistently capture minimum hire periods, mileage, fuel or other surcharges. When comparing firms, ask whether the quoted rate covers loading and unloading, VAT, travel time, mileage, parking and the full size of the crew. Also check whether the rate changes at weekends or for longer journeys.

Across the full five-trade study, 70 of the 117 firms publishing any price did not state whether VAT was included. Some smaller firms may not be VAT-registered. Customers should confirm the price basis rather than assume an advertised amount includes or excludes VAT.

How many UK removal companies publish prices online?

Marketit reviewed 120 removal company websites. Twenty-nine (24.2%) published at least one price for their own work; the other 91 did not. Seventeen of those 29 published some form of hourly rate, while 16 contributed standardised prices that could be compared in this guide. Thirteen published a fixed job price and 13 used a starting price; individual firms can appear in more than one group.

London made up part of the price-publishing group: seven of 12 London removal sites displayed a price, compared with 22 of 108 sites in the other nine cities. The hourly benchmarks still contain too few London firms to provide a meaningful separate London price.

    Where these prices come from

In October 2026, Marketit reviewed 600 trade business websites from ten UK cities, including 120 removal companies. Firms were drawn from Google Maps results. Up to 21 pages on each site were assessed using an AI-assisted method and written rules. The selection was not random, and the prices come from a small minority of companies that choose to publish them. Starting prices and different service inclusions limit direct comparison.
