What does a removals firm cost per hour in 2026? We checked the companies

SEK 595 an hour. That's the median price among the removals firms in Stockholm that publish their rate on their website. Two movers and a lorry, after RUT relief (a Swedish tax deduction that halves the labour cost of household services such as moving).

The fact that this figure can even be calculated is unusual. When we reviewed 142 tradespeople and removals firms across eight cities, the moving industry was the only one where prices are published to any meaningful degree, 14 of 35 firms. Carpenters, by comparison, showed zero prices across 39 websites. So if you want to know what trade services cost in Sweden, moving is the one area where you can actually google the answer. Here's what it looks like.

Across the whole review, prices ranged from SEK 390 in Malmö to SEK 1,350 at a firm in Uppsala, but the large majority fell between SEK 500 and 700 an hour after RUT relief.

Notably, Stockholm wasn't the most expensive. The published Gothenburg prices sat around SEK 800, well above the capital. The sample per city is small, so treat the city comparison with caution, but if you get a quote of SEK 700 an hour in Malmö, cheaper alternatives clearly exist.

The price on the website is almost always after RUT relief

Stockholm firm PIPERS advertises SEK 548 an hour. Their full price is SEK 1,095. Stadsbudskåren in Linköping quotes SEK 850, and charges SEK 1,600.

There's nothing shady about this. RUT relief gives 50 percent off the labour cost of a move, and firms deduct it directly on the invoice. But that means the figure you're comparing only holds if you have RUT allowance left. The deduction is capped per person per year, and it's shared with cleaning and other RUT services you've already bought. If you've used up your allowance, the move costs twice what the website promised.

What the hourly rate doesn't show

Two firms with the same hourly rate can differ by several thousand kronor on the same move. The call-out fee is the most common reason, and some firms also count travel time as working time. Then there's the minimum charge, often two or three hours even if the job takes one. Add weekend surcharges and insurance on top.

So ask for a written price where every item is broken out separately: hourly rate, call-out fee, minimum time, insurance. Firms that shy away from that question usually have a reason.

The firms that refuse hourly pricing

Acta Flytt, Nordflytt and Emrus all state outright that they never work by the hour. They assess what needs to be moved and give a binding fixed price.

For an average-sized move with known contents, that's often the better arrangement. An hourly rate can work out cheaper if everything goes smoothly, but a fixed price removes the risk that a stuck lift or a narrow staircase ends up on your invoice. The price can't grow during the day, full stop.

Three quotes, the same questions

The old advice to get three quotes still holds, with one addition: give all three the same information and demand answers to the same questions. Total price or hourly rate with minimum time. Call-out fee. Insurance. Before or after RUT. What happens if it takes longer.
