Movers in Atlanta
Four of the 12 Atlanta moving companies list rates, more than any other trade in the city. One posts a full menu: $100 an hour for two movers without a truck, $150 for two movers and a 15-foot truck with a two-hour minimum and a $75 travel fee, $200 for three movers and a 26-foot truck with a four-hour minimum, and $250 for four movers with a $100 travel fee. Two others offer labor-only help at $120 an hour for two movers, $150 for three and $180 for four. The fourth charges $219 an hour for a crew plus a trip fee.
Nationally, the median is $142.50 an hour for two movers and a truck, $190 for three and $249 for four, so the first company's truck rates sit within $10 of the national medians at every crew size. Labor-only rates, for when you rent the truck yourself, run $100 to $120 for two movers.
For a move to another state, the mover needs a USDOT number, which you can check through the federal regulator's Protect Your Move site (FMCSA). More in our moving price guide.

Both sit right at the national median diagnostic fee of $89.95 and at the low end of the $75 to $200 that HomeAdvisor's AC repair guide gives for a diagnostic visit. Nationally, the median tune-up is $134 and new furnaces start at a median of $4,200. More in our HVAC price guide.
Electricians in Atlanta

Roofers in the study that do post prices mostly give starting prices for repairs, from $250 to $500.
Sales tax on Atlanta home repairs
Georgia treats contractors as the end consumers of the materials they use to improve a home, so they pay sales tax when they buy them. For repair and installation work, labor is exempt only when it is listed separately on the invoice. The state's guidance says: "If not separately stated, labor charges are taxable" (Georgia Department of Revenue). Ask for labor and materials as separate lines on the bill.
Checking an Atlanta contractor
Georgia's State Construction Industry Licensing Board licenses residential and general contractors, electrical contractors, plumbers and conditioned air (HVAC) contractors. The Secretary of State's license verification search shows whether a license is active (Georgia Secretary of State).
